TORONTO, ON (February 6, 2023) -- The Toronto Beaches today announced that the team will be playing their home games at Scarborough Centennial Arena for the 2023 season.
Due to the ongoing plans to renovate Ted Reeve Arena, we will be unable to play in The Sand Box this coming summer.
The planned renovation was initially set to take place last summer, but the Ted Reeve Arena Board rescheduled the renovation for 2023, allowing the team to play at home this past summer.
Following a cancelled season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and a shortened bubble season in 2021, the Beaches returned home, going 9-1 in The Sand Box during the regular season. The team was able to play their opening-round playoff series against Peterborough at Ted Reeve Arena before relocating to other venues for the remainder of the playoffs.
Scarborough Centennial Arena has a rich history in junior lacrosse, originally serving as the home for the Junior B Scarborough Saints, who took home the Founders Cup in 1985 and 1992, respectively.
The 1992 Saints squad went a perfect 20-0 in the regular season and lost just two games that summer en route to the Junior B national championship.
"We are excited to have a permanent home for the summer of 2023. Centennial Arena will allow us to remain in the Beaches community where we are looking forward to playing in front of all of our fans and future Beaches Jr A players," Beaches head coach Reilly O'Connor said of the move.
Following a record-breaking season and the organization's first appearance in The Minto Cup, the Beaches are extremely excited for the start of the 2023 season.
